If you are a college student or someone that has had to learn to maximize their space in a small bedroom, keep reading to find out how to utilize your space!
Here’s a little disclaimer! As a college student, I’ve lived in a suite (think apartment minus the kitchen and extra square footage) for the past two years and figured out how to maximize my space.
This post is all about ways to maximize your space in a small bedroom!
Under The Bed Organizers
You won’t even realize how much space you are saving if you store your things under the bed until you actually do it. Under the bed organizers are truly life savers.
You can do these a few different ways.
First is to purchase these under the bed organizers. You can easily store clothes, shoes, food and personal items without the hassle of worrying about getting lost somewhere.
These fit perfectly underneath your bed, especially if you live in a dorm or small apartment.
They can store things like thick comforters and heavy coats so you can focus on the things you actually want to keep in your closet.
The second way is to get under the bed drawers. This would be ideal if you have a lofted bed and space where a drawer would be able to comfortably fit underneath your bed.
This is a great way to save space and you can totally repurpose this as a mini nightstand.
2. Put Your Dresser In Your Closet
I know a lot of college apartments were designed to fit their dresser in the closet to help students get more out of their space. Honestly it’s a genius idea.
It’s a perfect way to keep everything organized and opens up more space for you to get more out of your space.
The key to finding a dresser that will fit into your closet is finding a vertical dresser. It comes with 5 drawers so you have plenty of space to store your items!
This one is perfect because it’s vertical and has the natural oak color that complements your furniture. Not to mention there are tons of other options.
If you are someone that has a walk-in closet and wants to store more clothes, shoes, outerwear, bedding or anything, this is the one for you.
3. Speaking of Dressers….
While we are talking about dressers, it would probably be a good time to mention that an easy way to maximize your space is by organizing the items in your dresser.
If you are someone that often finds yourself throwing your clothes in the drawer and you want to keep your things organized, check out these drawer organizers!
These are the best because you just organize your t-shirts, panties, bras and tank tops into these organizers and not only are you saving space but you are saving yourself the hassle of trying to find everything when you are in a pinch.
They are stackable containers that are perfect for dressers, nursery, office and more!
4. Where Do You Keep Your Bath Towels?
Don’t overthink this one. If you are looking to open up some space and don’t know where to put your towels, may I suggest a utility cart?
Simply fold and stack your towels in the utility cart and store in your desired location.
I’ve used this for the past three years and it has made my life so much easier. You can easily roll these carts around between different rooms or repurpose them for different uses.
I’ve seen people use them as makeup carts and even as another way to store loose items in their closet.
5. Floating Shelves
I feel like floating shelves are so underrated! Not only are you maximizing your space, but they are great for added décor in your small bedroom.
These are perfect for filling up empty space on the wall. It can hold up to 40 pounds so don’t worry your favorite items won’t fall.
You can use it to hang your jewelry, perfume, picture frames and so much more. The possibilities are endless.
They are also budget friendly so you don’t have to worry about breaking the bank!
6. Build Your Own Kitchenette Station
If you are someone that lives in a suite/small bedroom or apartment that does not have a kitchen, this is your chance to build your own.
I built my own and I love using it everyday! You will need a kitchen utility cart like this one!
I have one very similar to this one and it’s extremely functional. If you look at the picture at the beginning of this post or my thumbnail for this blog, you can see that I store literally everything!
The assembly took less than 30 minutes and 2 years later I am not having any problems.
I store my airfryer, Keurig, storage containers and food. I love the slide out drawer on the top and different heights of the shelves.
7. Organizers For Your Kitchen Utility Cart
So since we’re talking about organizers, you might want to grab organizers for your cart.
These are going to help you keep your necessities organized and they fit perfectly on the shelves.
8. Add Decorative Baskets For Storage
Decorative baskets are an easy to store blankets, pillows, gaming accessories, laundry and so much more!
Not only do they act as storage, but the added decoration is so cute!
You can easily put these in the corner of the room so you do not have to worry about where you are going to store your warmest blankets and quilts.
They are pretty big so bank on fitting all your extras in here. These are durable, flexible and an attractive room accessory.
9. Why Isn’t Anyone Talking About Mirrors?
First, who doesn’t love a good mirror?
This full length mirror is versatile because you can hang it horizontal or vertical without the mirror losing its beauty.
This allows your room to feel more open because you can actually see the different dimensions of your small bedroom through the mirror.
Whether you want to mount it or put it against the wall, the beauty of a mirror can light up a room.
10. Utilize Space On Doors
This one is so simple! I’m sure you have a bedroom, closet or bathroom door that is waiting to be used for something.
Simply purchase an over the door hook and hang your purse, jewelry, scarves, jackets, hats, umbrellas, everyday clothing items, bath towels or even your mirror.
This is a perfect way to maximize your space and get rid of unwanted clutter. Plus over the door hooks are easy reminders to not forget your favorite items.
11. Stack, Stack, Stack!
Stacking your appliances is so underrated!
For example, I stacked my microwave on top of my mini fridge and my printer on top of my microwave. When you are running out of space, you have no choice!
Stacking simply allows you to save space and get creative. If you can utilize any space on top of a heavy object, do it! Game changer!
