5 Healthy Eating Habits To Overcome Overeating
Let’s get into all the healthy eating habits that are going to help you reach your weight loss goals!
Your healthy eating habits focus on prioritizing your macronutrients. This is your protein, healthy carbs, healthy fats and of course veggies.
Focusing on healthy eating habits is what will sustain you in the long run. Habits are what you build over time that can be adjusted based on your lifestyle.
It’s not about restricting yourself or following restrictive diets. It’s about adding nutrients to nourish your body. The more you give your body what it needs the less you will need for refined and processed foods.
This post is all about healthy eating habits!
1. Veggies first!
Fill that plate up with veggies! If you ever feel bloated veggies like asparagus, cucumbers, broccoli, spinach and carrots are the BEST to help get things moving.
Sweet potatoes are a GREAT source of fiber that can be substituted for rice if you want to add a carb to your meal.
When you are building your plate, load up that plate with vegetables FIRST and make it a colorful array. It makes it easier to eat when it looks pretty!
Most veggies go with every meal. It’s easy to add a side salad to your favorite meal.
This is going to help you feel fuller longer and eliminate those cravings.
2. Prioritize protein
If anything you should be increasing your protein intake.
Aim for 100 grams of protein each day. This can be simply broken down into 5 meals. If you eat 5 meals a day (breakfast, morning snack, lunch, afternoon snack, dinner) that should be around 20 grams per meal then you’ve reached your goal!
It makes it easier when you break your meals up throughout the day because then you aren’t cramping all your protein in at the end of the day.
If you like to workout this is especially important because this will allow you to burn fat and build muscle faster than you would if you weren’t prioritizing protein.
One of the easiest and quickest ways to increase your protein intake is by adding EarthChimp Protein Powder into your daily routine.
This protein powder is vegan and SO clean. Look at the ingredients HERE.
Each serving has 20 grams of protein.
It’s so easy to add to your smoothies, mixed with milk or water, your favorite desserts or even in your yogurt parfait.
3. Drink your water
If you have trouble going to the bathroom, feel bloated and find yourself hungry more times than not, your decreased water intake could be a possible cause.
If you have trouble drinking water, get a water bottle that will help you reach your goals. What’s the most convenient way for you to drink water?
I love my Simple Modern Tumbler. It’s super easy for me to carry between work, the gym, Pilates and sits perfectly on top of my desk.
Whenever you get really hungry pause, drink some water and think about what is going to best to nourish your body.
You know when you get really hungry and you think the sugary overpriced latte is the answer, majority of the time it’s not.
Most of the time you’re dehydrated and need to increase your water intake.
4. Don’t cut the carbs
Yes, you can still eat healthy and have carbs. Yes you can still lose weight and enjoy the pasta.
Let’s debunk the myth that says that you have to cut carbs in order to lose weight.
I lost 45 pounds and still was able to enjoy the bread, pasta, cake, ice cream… in moderation.
Carbs give you energy. Think about it, when you need a quick boost before the gym you grab a banana or some oats.
Before you start your day you eat breakfast that generally has some source of carbs in them and that gives you your boost for the day.
Carbs aren’t the enemy, they’re your friend.
It’s all about building a balanced plate.
When the carbs begin to outweigh the amount of protein and veggies you consume, that's what slows down your progress.
5. Splurge a little…
You deserve to treat yourself!
You’re not always going to be eating in a caloric deficit. That’s not realistic.
You can follow the 80/20 or 90/10 rule.
The 80/20 rule is 80% of the time you’re eating whole foods that nourish your body as discussed above and the other 20% of the time you can splurge. The same for the 90/10 rule.
If you continuously eat the same meals your body will get used to those meals and you will become stagnant.
Every once in a while you need a good burger and fries to break your routine and keep your momentum going.
