How To Relax Your Body in 12 Ways
Are YOU finally ready learn how to relax your body?
Raise your hand, if you’ve been stressed and find it impossible to relax your body. I know it’s hard when we get busy, but it’s so worth it.
The best part about this is, it does not have to be expensive. You can stay in and enjoy self care from the luxury of your home or go all out and head to the spa.
If your body is feeling tense and stressed, it’s best that you listen to your body and rest. Running on fumes will just lead to a bigger burnout.
This post is all about how to relax your body!
1. Just breathe
Sometimes you might feel overwhelmed because you haven’t stopped to just breathe. Slow down and take a minute or even 5 minutes to just be present with yourself and breathe.
If you are someone that struggles with anxiety this can help tremendously with refocusing on what is important.
2. Move your body
This could be something as simple as moving your body, attending a workout class or going to the gym.
At times, it can be difficult to understand why you feel tense. Moving your body even for 10 minutes can help relax your body and put you at ease.
3. Understand your triggers
It might be difficult for you to relax your body if you don’t understand your triggers. This can be a trigger from any of your relationships, work or let’s be real, life.
When you notice yourself becoming triggered by a certain behavior or action, take note of it! Your body is trying to tell you something.
4. Question your thoughts
You are not your worst thoughts and you are so much better than your best thoughts. When you begin to think negative thoughts, its important to question them. Where did that come from? What triggered that thought?
If you don’t take a second to question your thoughts, you may begin to spiral into more negative thoughts.
Take a beat, catch yourself and speak life over yourself.
5. Your emotions aren’t your master
Your emotions do not control you. Yes your emotions are valid but they are not everything. They don’t tell the full story.
Yes, lean into your emotions and dig into while you feel them, but you have to keep going. You have a beautiful life to live. Don’t let your emotions stop you from living your life.
6. Create a calm environment
Creating a calm environment is everything in relaxing your body. Your body has a way of knowing what environments are safe and unsafe. Listen!
If you live at home, create some space that you can call yours. If you live on your own, build a home that you love coming home to.
Environments set the mood and a shift in the mood can change everything.
7. Reevaluate your goals
Are you putting too much pressure on yourself? Sometimes we put too much pressure on ourselves because we feel like we absolutely HAVE to meet this deadline or else. Now sometimes that might be the truth, but other times it’s not.
Goals are amazing and you should always create them with the intent of achieving them, but sometimes they are not the most realistic goals.
When you create unrealistic goals, your working way harder than you need to and you will probably start running on fumes.
If you notice that you’ve been putting too much pressure on yourself, ease up a bit to help relax your body and mind.
8. Stretch!
The one thing about stress is when you feel like you FEEL it. It starts in one part of the body and it grows until it’s addressed. Sounds exhausting right?
Take 5-10 minutes to stretch. Move around to feel what’s good in your body. It can be anything from a Child’s pose to a seated twist. There are tons of guided stretching a yoga videos on YouTube so you don’t feel lost:)
The amazing thing about stretching is that you can set a whole vibe while you are doing it. You can set a mood, put your favorite pajamas on and turn your diffuser on and maybe even instrumental music.
Taking this time for yourself will relax your body and make it so much easier for you to pour into your passions.
9. Journal
I know this might sound like “duh” thing but I promise once you do it, it makes you feel so much better.
I love this journal because it’s pretty and pink and simple. It’s easy to literally brain dump your thoughts. If you love a journal that give you prompts to guide your thoughts, this journal is amazing!
I understand sometimes it’s hard to sit still and be with yourself, but I promise you it’s worth it.
10. Get out of your head
Let’s be real sometimes you can in your thoughts and it’s driving your nuts. You are not alone, I’ve been there!
You can’t stay there forever. In this fast paced life, it’s easy to feel like you have to have it all together all the time and that’s so FAR from the truth.
Aside from the societal expectations you might be facing, slow and think about how MUCH you can actually control. Sometimes we are in our heads because we are trying to control situations and we have to release control in order to step in what is for us.
11. Spend time with people who lift you up!
Connecting with people who lift you up can instantly change your mood. We were NOT created to do life alone.
People that lift you up should be enhancing your life and pushing you towards your purpose. Your inner circle/closets friends should be challenging your actions and holding you accountable.
What do you learn from people that agree with every.single.thing. you say?
12. Leave the past in the past
The past is the past. You can’t change it. I’m sorry that it happened and now you might be dealing with unwanted consequences, but life goes on.
Come to terms with what happened. Cry. Be mad. Get upset. Feel all the emotions. Pray. Go to therapy. When YOU FEEL ready, begin again. Your strength is in your scars.
